Here are some news items on the Keystone Transit Career Ladder Partnership initiative:

  • Harrisburg : Cindy Conaway at the Pennsylvania Public Transpiration Association has been busy signing up maintenance mechanics from across the Commonwealth. Over 100 transit employees from the smaller properties across the state have either been trained or are registered for upcoming classes. Prospective students are urged to sign up quickly before the classes become full. The current upcoming class schedule is as follows:

  • Statewide: Some statewide statistics on the Keystone program: Number of job tasks identified: 4,128; Number of mechanics assessed: 1,928; Number of trainees trained: 1,500+; Number of job tasks analysis/subject matter experts interviewed: 232; Number of job classifications: 78.

  • Philadelphia :   SEPTA and TWU Local #234 avoided a city-paralyzing strike Sunday night with a tentative one-year contract that preserves existing health-care benefits and gives 4,700 transit employees a one-time $1,000 bonus.

  • Philadelphia : Since July 1, 2003, 643 workers have been trained in Keystone Classes in Philadelphia. This includes 495 workers trained in some aspect of bus maintenance and 92 trained in some aspect of rail maintenance.

  • Minneapolis-St. Paul: Over 2,000 members of Amalgamated Transit Union Local #1005 have been on strike at Metro Transit since March 4, 2004.

  • Pittsburgh : The Pittsburgh Labor/Management Keystone Policy Steering Committee is to meet April 6, 2004. One of the items on the agenda is the approval for specific courses to meet immediate training needs.

  • Hershey: The Keystone Transit Career Ladder Partnership will have a booth at the PPTA Spring Conference and EXPO to be held at the Hershey Lodge and Convention Center March 30 to April 1, 2004.
