Here are some updates on what's happening in the Keystone Transit Career
Ladder Partnership initiative:
- Harrisburg : On March 8, 2004 the
labor and management representatives from the Standards Subcommittee of
the Pennsylvania Transit Maintenance Labor-Management Workgroup met in
Harrisburg to interview representatives from two transit technical training
firms. The two firms were Technical Education Service from Burns, Tennessee
and H & M Technical Services, Inc. from Centerburg, Ohio.
- State College : SEPTA's Technical Training
Staff taught their second Keystone/PennTRAIN course to maintenance mechanics
from other properties across the state. The course was Advanced HVAC.
- Altoona : The Advanced Electrical – Dinnex
Systems Course originally scheduled for March 9-12, 2004 in Altoona has
been rescheduled for April 20-22, 2004 in Altoona because of illness in
the Instructor's Family.
- Pittsburgh : The EDSI consultants
report that over the past month over eighty-one (81) subject matter experts
have been interviewed to date at the Port Authority of Allegheny County.
- Altoona : Mr. Eric Wolf, General Manger
of AMTRAN sent personal letters this week to over sixty (60) fellow General
Managers from Class 3, 4 and 5 transit properties across the state encouraging
them to send maintenance mechanics to the upcoming Keystone training courses.
- Washington, DC: Our friends at the Community
Transportation Development Center recently submitted a proposal
to the Employment and Training Administration at the US Department
of Labor entitled "Building
Capacity for Transit Workforce Development: Developing Standards, Models
and Systems for Transit Training and Apprenticeship.”
