Here are some updates on what's happening in the Keystone Partnership initiative
across the Commonwealth:
- Washington D.C. : The
Transportation Research Board is establishing a national panel to provide
overall counsel and technical guidance for the project: Transit Bus
Mechanics: Building for Success. Because of its success, the Keystone
Partnership from Pennsylvania will have three (3) representatives on the
eight (8) member national panel. This project is administered by the Transit
Cooperative Research Program (TCRP), in cooperation with the Federal Transit
Administration (FTA), and the American Public Transportation Association
(APTA).
- Philadelphia : The Philadelphia Keystone
coordinators Stu Bass (TWU Local #234) and John Buckner (SEPTA) met
with the consulting firm Educational Data Systems, Inc. and decided on
Keystone deliverables by the consultants of Training Manuals (Teacher & Student
Manual for each) for the following: Electricity 101 - Principles of
electricity and use of meters; Electronics 101 - Principles of Digital
Electronics; Electronics 102 - Industrial Electronics; Electronics
103 - Introduction
to Programmable Logic Controllers; and Bus HVAC (packaging 4 identified
courses into full training binder) for delivery by June 30, 2004
- Pittsburgh : The Pittsburgh Keystone
Coordinator Kevin Barrett (ATU Local #85) is now settled into his office
in Room 4000 at the Manchester Facilities, 2235 Beaver Ave. He can be reached

- Harrisburg : The Co-Chairs
of the Pennsylvania Transit Maintenance Labor/Management Workgroup
(PTMLM) John Remark (PA AFL-CIO) and Charlie Shilk (PA Public
Transportation Association) are developing the agenda for the
next statewide meeting to be held in Pittsburgh on February 26-27,
2004 . Please contact John (412-881-1029) or Charlie (814-965-2111
x218) with any suggestions for agenda items.
- Philadelphia : Multiple dignitaries
addressed the graduating class of the first Keystone sponsored
Technology Preparation Course on Wednesday, February 11, 2004
. SEPTA General Manager Faye Moore and TWU Local #85 President
Jean Alexander jointly presented Certificates to the Graduates.
The highlight of the well-attended event was a reading of a poem
entitled "A Diverse Pyramid" composed by one of
the graduates, Albert Grainger, Maintenance Custodian from
Orange Line Stations.
