Here are some updates on what's happening in the Keystone Partnership initiative
across the Commonwealth:
- State College : The full class of Principles
of Engines & Transmissions class originally scheduled for February
17-20, 2004 at the Centre Area Transportation Authority in State College,
Pa. may be rescheduled. We received word yesterday from the Nashville
Auto Diesel College that its instructor for this class has just recently
resigned. Other arrangements for a trainer are being pursued at this
time. Students registered for the class will be notified this week of
the course's status.
- Harrisburg : Yesterday the Pennsylvania
Public Transportation Association (PPTA) held its Government Affairs Conference
in Harrisburg . The conference was addressed by Governor Rendell and other
political leaders from the PA legislature. Materials on the Keystone Transit
Career Ladder Partnership were provided attendees.
- Washington, D.C. : Our
friends at the Community Transportation Development Center are
using the "Pennsylvania" model
as they work towards creating the "Buckeye Transit Career Ladder
Partnership" in
Ohio . It looks like Cleveland and Columbus labor & management
representatives are on board and meetings are being held this week
with state officials to discuss possible funding.
- Philadelphia : Today Labor and Industry
Deputy Secretary Sandi Vito is scheduled to address the graduating class
of the first Keystone sponsored Technology Preparation Course in Philadelphia
. Other scheduled speakers include PA AFL-CIO President Bill George, SEPTA
General Manger Faye Moore, TWU Local # 234 President Jean Alexander and
TWU International President Sonny Hall.
- Harrisburg : In the first Inter-Transit
agency training under the Keystone Transit Career Ladder Partnership,
SEPTA trainers were well received by the maintenance mechanics
from other properties across the state for their Advanced HVAC training
course conducted January 20-23, 2004.
- Pittsburgh : The five (5) labor-management
Workgroups formed by the Port Authority and ATU Local #85 have jointly
identified "Subject Matter Experts" who will be interviewed by the
Educational Data Systems, Inc. (EDSI) consultants regarding job tasks in
order to identify aggregate skill gaps needed to develop meaningful training
courses.
