Here is the weekly E-Newsletter (a day late) with the news items on the Keystone Transit Career Ladder Partnership initiative:

  • Philadelphia : Yesterday, the Community Transportation Development Center (Transportation Center) provided an Interim Report regarding SEPTA/TWU worker and supervisor satisfaction with the Keystone Transit Career Ladder Partnership program to the Philadelphia Policy Steering Committee. With a response rate of 63%, a survey found that nearly all the workers felt that their experience with Keystone classes and mentoring to be rewarding and satisfactory. More than 90% of the respondents would like to be involved in more Keystone training in the future.  Copies of the completed report can be obtained from Xinge Wang at the Transportation Center at (301) 565-4715.

  • New York : Last Thursday Thomas Mathews and Bob Garraty provided an overview of the Keystone Transit Program at a session in the Working for American Institute Conference in New York City . The session was entitled "Working in Sectors: Unions as Intermediaries." Also on the agenda was Bruce Herman, Executive Director, Center for Workforce and Economic Development, Center for Worker Education in New York.

  • Philadelphia : The next meeting of the statewide Pennsylvania Transit Maintenance Labor/Management Committee will take place in Philadelphia on Friday, June 11, 2004 at the SEPTA training center (STATS), 200 W. Wyoming Avenue , Philadelphia, Pa. 19140 starting at 9:00 AM with a tour of the facilities. Questions on the accommodations can be directed to Colleen May or Mark Catenacci at 215-580-4277.

  • National: A favorable article on the Keystone Transit Career Ladder Partnership appeared on page 19 of the May 3, 2004 issue of the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) Weekly Newspaper "Passenger Transport." APTA is a nonprofit international association of over 1,500 public and private member organizations. Over ninety percent of persons using public transportation in the United States and Canada are served by APTA members.

  • Altoona : At the May 19, 2004 meeting of the fiscal/budgetary subcommittee from the PA Transit Maintenance Labor Management Workgroup (Keystone/PennTRAIN) in Altoona, the members discussed the FY 2004-2005 budget. They are recommending an additional 5% of the total budget be used for statewide course development.

  • Philadelphia : A total of 851 individuals have been trained to date in the Philadelphia portion of the Keystone Transit Career Ladder Partnership in this fiscal year ( July 1, 2004 through May 1, 2004 ). The vast majority of those trained were in bus maintenance related courses (651).

  • York : A Keystone/PennTRAIN CFC Certification class was held at Rabbit Transit, York , PA on May 25-26, 2004 . The seven mechanics taking the finals were Larry Wright, CAT / Harrisburg , Justin Dunleavy, CAT / Harrisburg , Matt Hruschka, Red Rose / Lancaster , William Been, Red Rose / Lancaster , Lee Warner, Endless Mountains / Sayre, Tim Seymore, AMTRAN / Altoona and Kenneth Trimmer, Rabbit / York . The course instructor was Doug Greenwood .
