Keystone E-Newsletter, Issue 17, 2004

by Keystone Project Coordinator, Dr. Robert G. Garraty
May 18, 2004

Here is the weekly E-Newsletter with the news items on the Keystone Transit Career Ladder Partnership initiative:

  • Torrance, California: METRO Magazine, a national publication that covers surface public transportation, recently published a story entitled "Pennsylvania Labor, Management Join Forces in Training Partnership." The story was on the Keystone Transit Career Ladder Partnership. The story can be accessed at http://www.metro-magazine.com/t_featpick.cfm?id=90507132

  • Harrisburg: The Labor Education Institute, part of the PA State System of Higher Education, and the Keystone Research Center, are joining forces to sponsor a Conference and Dinner on June 10, 2004 at the Crowne Plaza in Harrisburg , PA. The conference is entitled " New Ways of Working Together: A Symposium about Partnerships." The Keystone Transit Career Ladder Partnership is one of the Partnerships to be highlighted. Tom Mathews and Bob Garraty will be conducting a workshop on the Keystone program. To register, contact the Institute at (717) 720-4231.

  • Statewide: There is one more Statewide Newsletter (covering Philadelphia , Pittsburgh and the rest of the state) that is planned for this Fiscal Year. Articles should be sent to Alfred Turner. You can reach Al at (610) 992-0555. Also Stu Bass informs us that copies of the recently published and well-received Keystone Philadelphia Newsletter are still available. Call Stu for copies at (215) 732-7476 x 21.

  • National:  Both major party candidates for the Presidency are "Taking the bus" as part of their campaigning. Copying a tactic utilized by Pennsylvania Governor Rendell, President Bush and John Kerry have been riding the bus throughout the Mid-West as they visit the battleground states. Let's hope their buses don't breakdown because of poor maintenance......or should we?

  • Statewide: Please visit our website at http://www.keystonetransit.org/pub.htm for copies of all the Keystone Newsletters, Keystone/PennTRAIN Maintenance Course Schedules (including multiple SEPTA maintenance courses that they are being made available to other Pennsylvania transit properties through Keystone) and copies of these past E-Newsletters.

  • Statewide: This is to remind all partners and venders that we need to receive all invoices from everyone on time. All invoices for the fiscal year must be received no later than July 15, 2004. As spelled out in all Memorandums of Agreement, the Partnership cannot guarantee payment on any invoice we receive later than July 15, 2004 .
