Keystone E-Newsletter, Issue 10, 2004
by Keystone Project Coordinator, Dr. Robert G. Garraty
March 31, 2004
- Pittsburgh : With suggestions from
the five joint labor/management workgroups established under the Keystone
Partnership at the Port Authority, the Pittsburgh Policy Steering Committee
next week will be approving the first local Keystone sponsored training
to meet immediate needs.
- Philadelphia : We just received
word that the Keystone Partnership effort in Philadelphia is close
to securing additional funding from a local workforce development
agency. SEPTA and TWU Local # 234's joint proposal is to cover
entry-level positions not currently part of the existing Philadelphia
program.
- Hershey: The PA Public Transportation Association (PPTA)
annual Conference, currently underway in Hershey, had two major well-attended
(over 30 people) committee meetings (Maintenance and PennTRAIN) that discussed
how the Keystone Partnership is assisting the PennTRAIN program in providing
maintenance training across the state.
- Harrisburg : To date, 121 transit maintenance
employees from transit properties outside Philadelphia have either completed
training or have registered for upcoming Keystone sponsored training. This
compares to the 125 individuals who received training all last year in
this category. It is expected that the program will significantly surpassed
last year's figures.
- Statewide: The course schedule for upcoming Keystone
sponsored maintenance courses can be located at http://www.keystonetransit.org/CourseSchedule.htm
- Harrisburg : Representatives
from the PA AFL-CIO are currently in discussions with legislative
leaders and officials from the Pa Department of Labor & Industry
regarding next fiscal year's Keystone Partnership funding possibilities.
- Note: This is the 10th consecutive
weekly E-newsletter distributed to parties interested in the Keystone
Partnership. Please contact Dr. Garraty if you know of additional individuals
who may want to receive this weekly correspondence.
- Thanks: A special thanks to Ms. Xinge Wang of the Community
Transportation Development Center who places this weekly E-newsletter on
Keystone's web site at http://www.keystonetransit.org/
